Our History

Kakivik began operations in 1999 and is now a highly regarded solutions provider to the oil and gas, aviation, marine, construction, mining and petrochemical industries. Co-founded by CH2M Hill and Bristol Bay Native Corporation (BBNC), Kakivik is now a wholly owned subsidiary of BBNC, the regional Alaska Native corporation for the Bristol Bay region of Alaska.

BBNC, headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, is invested in multiple industry verticals with thirty-one operating subsidiaries and annual revenues in excess of $1 billion.

At the outset, Kakivik was the exclusive inspection and NDT service provider for the TransAlaska Pipeline, and the Greater Kuparuk Area and Alpine oil fields on Alaska’s North Slope. Over the past decade, we have steadily expanded our solution set, our customer base, and the industries that we serve.

Core technical crews perform work in the Kuparuk and Alpine oil fields and both onshore and offshore in the Cook Inlet of Alaska. Our history has taken us to far flung locations around the world and very large crews have been deployed to conduct inspections and turnaround work at refineries in the lower-48.

Kakivik’s growth has been achieved by way of methodical attention to work procedures, meticulous screening of employees, and mandatory training and testing in safety and technical qualifications. Business development efforts have long been focused on technology acquisition; with more recent initiatives focused on new customer acquisition and geographic diversification.
